5 Steps To Finding Your Niche
Finding your Niche. Tips to finding your Niche.
Deciding what Niche you want to write about can be a very difficult and time consuming task. I personally have changed my niche a dozen times over the last 8 years, which has really hurt me. If I would have stuck with one of those niches I would be very successful right now. I know all us creative souls want to write about so many things, because we are passionate about so many things! However, this will hurt your business and success, you will change your direction often and become overwhelmed. This is why I decided to throw together some tips you can use to help decide on your niche!
Write down everything you want to write about, get it all out on paper in front of you. Don’t worry about choosing niches you think will make money, all niches can be monetized! You have to be passionate about the topic you choose so you can offer useful content that will help solve a problem for your target audience.
Time to eliminate some topics. Look at each topic and try to think of some blog post ideas you could write about that would solve a problem for someone. If you can’t think of 10 right away then cross off that topic. Keep doing this and see how many topics you are left with.
Now subcategorize each topic, break them down into sub-niches. If you need help on some topics type them into google and see what comes up. Once you have a good list of sub-niches look over them again and really think if you can or can’t write about them for years. Scratch a few more off your list.
Look at your main topics and sub-topics, is there any that stand out? Now that you have a couple topics that you are very passionate about we can think in terms of monetizing. Which of these topics do you think you could monetize? Make a list under each one of what type of ads you could advertise and what kind of products you could recommend. Also think about what kind of eBooks/resources/courses you could create for each topic and sub topics.
Now just choose the topic that has the most, and decide which sub-topic you want to start off focusing on. It is always best to focus on the sub-topic at first, then you can eventually include another sub-topic under the same main topic.
Below is an example using my sub-niche:
My main Niche was Finance. I then narrowed it down to Budgeting and Making Money. I new the most about those two topics and I really enjoy helping people in those areas.
Once I had a good idea of where I wanted my blog to go, I decided to first focus on budgeting. Now I am starting to create some money making blog posts, during this time I have realized how much I enjoy helping others plan, organize and create goals around making money and/or budgeting. I am now working on creating some group programs as well as 1:1 mentor-ships. Again you can see how creating a blog can open up so many opportunities for you to become financially free.
